According to Energy Information Administration (EIA), 23% of coal-fired plants of 200,568 MW capacity currently operating in USA will be closed by 2029. The increased competition from natural gas as well as renewable energy and high operating costs are leading to retirement of these plants. USA’s retired coal-based power plants will total 11,778 MW in 2022.
