One of the largest coal producers of the world, USA, has witnessed a fall in the coal output by 14% to 16 mmst in week 20 Y-o-Y comparison which was about 18.6 mmst in the same period of 2014.
According to US Energy Information Agency’s (EIA) latest report, total coal production in week 20 has declined by 14% in Y-o-Y comparison. However, week 19 and week 20 output remained same. The country produced about 16 mmst of coal during week 20, with East of the Mississippi River producing about 6.7 mmst and West of the Mississippi River 9.4 mmst.
Low demand in international market, together with declined domestic consumption, has been forcing US miners to cut their coal production. Moreover, global prices trending low with over supply in the market by other exporting countries have led to constant decline in US coal output as well as export. US coal production has fallen in all its producing regions, with largest decline of 13% marked in Appalachia in 2015.
The country has registered a production decline of 14% in week 20 when compared to the production of same week in 2014.The country produced about 347.8 mmst YTD coal in 2015, including Coking, Non-coking & Anthracite, which is about 6.4% lower when compared to YTD Coal production in 2014.
