US shredded scrap prices rose by $2.50/lt on Wednesday as
more US scrap sources completed business for September.
A buyer at an Ohio valley steel mill said he bought shred at $460/lt delivered
to his mill gate, $5 more than he paid in August.
For the most part, HMS 1 sold into mills at $420-430/lt delivered in August.
Plate/structural was higher at $435-445/lt and prime busheling was sold at about
$505-515/lt.
One market source Tuesday said he sold prime busheling at
$510/lt and $515/lt delivered, unchanged and down $5/lt from August.
An upper Midwest scrap dealer said he sold most of his September tons unchanged
at $455-460/lt delivered, pushing up prices a few dollars from August levels in
some cases.
Demand was steady, the upper Midwest dealer said, with mills
taking all his available tons. “As usual, there was no real problem in
selling what we wanted,” he said.
