US: Scrap Management Industries acquires Allmetal Recycling, expands footprint

  • SMI’s Midwest footprint expands to 19 yards
  • Operations span Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma

Scrap Management Industries Inc. (SMI), based in Kansas City, Missouri, has acquired Wichita-based Allmetal Recycling, strengthening its footprint across the US Midwest. The deal adds 10 locations in Kansas, expanding SMI’s network to 19 yards across Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Following the acquisition, SMI will operate five automobile shredders, including two mega shredders, significantly enhancing processing capacity and regional coverage. Allmetal’s facilities are located across key Kansas markets, including Wichita, Salina, Newton, McPherson, Great Bend, Kingman, and Pratt.

SMI CEO Jerrit Burgess said the acquisition reflects shared values, as both companies are family-built and locally led, with a strong focus on community service. The integration is expected to deliver greater capacity, broader reach, and improved customer service while keeping decision-making local.

Founded in 2009, Allmetal Recycling is owned by cousins Clint and Kolby Cornejo, who will remain in leadership roles. Allmetal will continue operating under its own name as part of the SMI group.

For industrial scrap generators, the combined company offers expanded logistics, container options, and multi-location programme support. Walk-in customers will benefit from more recycling locations and continued investment in facilities and equipment.

Founded in 1973, SMI is a leading recycler of ferrous and non-ferrous metals across central US.
