Manganese alloys imports by the US decreased 49% m-o-m to 37,690 t in October 2022 from 75,056 t in September. The drop in imports was due to a 9% y-o-y decline in domestic crude steel production to 6.7 million tonnes (mnt) in October.
Ferro manganese
The US imported 1,808 t of ferro manganese in October compared to 39,350 t in September, down sharply by 95% m-o-m. Due to a high level of domestic stock-holding, ferro manganese imports dropped. While this was happening, from January-October this year, ferro manganese imports slipped 4% y-o-y to 247,203 t.
Silico manganese
Silico manganese imports increased by 1% m-o-m to 35,882 t in October from 35,706 t in September. However, in January-October this year, imports rose 41% y-o-y to 365,951 t. The major exporting nations were Georgia at 22,807 t, Australia at 7,521 t, and Mexico at 3,884 t. Shipments from Norway stood at 1,671 t, down 83% on the month.
