It has been noted that US power utilities are concluding long term deals as one of North American supplier has concluded a contract for domestic supply of low-calorific coal (4,800-5,000 kcal/kg) from Powder River Basin during 2014-2017.
As many local buyers are showing interest on long-term buying so notably, the material enjoys the strongest demand. However US suppliers are not able to clinch any foreign supply deals on unviable prices and offering material around USD 65-70/t FOB.
On this unfavorable export market condition, a leading miner Patriot Coal, with around 2 Million Tonnes (MnT) per annum of production, has discontinued operations at Logan County thermal coal complex.
