US Ferrous Scrap Exports rise by 13.8% in First Quarter

Based on the data
from Commerece Department, US Ferrous Scrap exports gained by 13.8 percent in
the first quarter of 2012 from the same period in 2011. Export volumes also moved up by 15.6 percent from
February 2012.

Strong demand from four
of the top five offshore consumers of US scrap lifted overall Ferrous Scrap
export volumes in March.

Turkish mills
remain the top importer of US Scrap, prefering the prime quality of Scrap. It's
(Turkey's) year-on-year imports gain coupled with surge in sales to India and
stellar sales off the West Coast to South Korea and Taiwan, pushed total U.S.
exports to 2,149,519 tonnes in March.
