Update 1: JNPT Operation come to a Standstill with Workers on strike

JNPT operations have still not resumed because of wage issues between workers and the management at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT).

Workers alleged the management for not increasing the wages over past few years, to which the management replied that the wages have been revised every four year.

Labour Union alleged on the management that NSICT had declared an illegal lockout of the port which was dnied by the company. Instead they alleged back that the problem occurred because of the 'go slow' strategy adopted by the labours.

According to the sources, MRAI officials had also met the port authority to convince them for resuming the operations, but unfortunately failed to do so. They even confirmed that the strike might continue next week which could hamper the import drastically. JNPT port imports 50,000 MT of Scrap and above 30,000 MT of Iron and Steel monthly.

On the other side, shipping agents told that some foreign shipping companies have started calling off ships from coming to the ports at these facilities with slowing cargo movements.
