United States Pig iron Imports Fall in September 2017- US Customs

United States, the world’s largest importer for Pig iron reported decline in imports by 37% M-o-M in Sep’17, the fresh released data by US customs showed.

According to customs, the nation has reported a downfall of 36.53% M-o-M & imported about 330,000 MT Pig iron in Sep’17 against 520,000 MT in Aug’17. In line on yearly basis imports plunged by 21.42% against 420,000 MT in Sep’16

During Sep’17 major imports was reported from Russia approximately 40% (130,000 MT) and rest quantities being imported from Brazil & Ukraine.

Coming to total imports in CY17 (Jan-Sep’17), the nation has imported about 3.94 MnT Pig Iron; down by 20.85% as compared to 3.26 MnT in the same preceding last year.

Prior to this, in CY16 (Jan-Dec) the country’s Pig Iron import was around 3.87 MnT & in CY15 at 4.53 MnT.

Country wise:

During September 2017, the largest exporter of Pig Iron to United states was Russia, Brazil & Ukraine which exported about 130,000 MT, 100,000 MT & 90,000 MT respectively.

In CY17 (Jan-Sep) – Russia, Ukraine & Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 2.15 MnT (54.62%), 0.85 MnT (21.65%) & 0.74 MnT (18.69%), respectively.

Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 330-340/MT FoB Russia, USD 350-360/MT FoB Brazil & USD 325-345/MT FoB India.

As per the SteelMint analysis, in the month of September 2017, the crude steel production of United States was around 6.72 MnT and in CY17(Jan-Sep) it was approximately 61.51 MnT.
