United States Pig Iron Imports Analysis, June 2017

As per recent data released by United States customs it is observed that the nation has imported about 390,000 MT Pig Iron in June 2017.

The imports have registered a downfall of 2.5% M-o-M in Jun’17 against 400,000 MT in May’17. During Jun’17, Russia has exported approximately more than 40% Pig Iron (160,000 MT) to the nation.

While, on Y-o-Y in June 2017 imports registered a rise of 44.50% against 270,000 MT in June 2016.

Coming to total imports in H1 CY17 (Jan-Jun17), the nation has imported about 2.37 MnT Pig Iron; up by 41.66% as compared to 1.68 MnT in the same preceding last year.

Prior to this, in CY16 (Jan-Dec) the country’s Pig Iron import was around 3.87 MnT & in CY15 at 4.53 MnT.

Country wise:

In CY17 (Jan-Jun) – Russia, Ukraine, Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 1.32 MnT (55.75%), 0.48 MnT (20.06%) & 0.44 MnT (18.76%), respectively.

Russia continues to remain the largest Pig iron supplier to United States –

Russia remained in the top list of Pig Iron export to United States. In the duration of H1 CY17 (Jan-Jun’17), Russia has exported around 2.25 MnT Pig Iron which contribute about 65% of total Pig Iron imports in United States.

Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 352/MT FoB Russia, USD 350/MT FoB Brazil & USD 345/MT FoB India.

In the month of June 2017, the crude steel production of Unites States was around 6.707 MnT and in H1 CY17 it was approximately 40.591 MnT, as per WSA.
