As per recently released customs data, United States has imported 0.36 MnT ferrous scrap in Oct’17 which has increased marginally up by 6% M-o-M against 0.34 MnT ferrous scrap imports in Sept’17. However, in yearly comparison ferrous scrap imports registered a significant rise of 50% Y-o-Y in Oct’17 as ferrous scrap imports were 0.24 MnT in Oct’16.
During the first ten months of CY17 (Jan-Oct’17), United States imported 3.74 MnT ferrous scrap with hike of 21% against 3.08 MnT imports during the same period of last year. In CY16, USA imported 3.60 MnT ferrous scrap.
United States is world’s fourth-largest importer of ferrous scrap after Turkey, South Korea and India. At the same time, it stood as the second largest exporter of ferrous scrap after Europe-28. In Oct’17, ferrous scrap exports from United States Hit 14 Months High. United States exported 1.47 MnT ferrous scrap in Oct’17 while earlier to this, ferrous scrap exports was registered highest in Aug’16 at 1.69 MnT from United States.
Top unloading ports in United States for scrap import activities were Detroit, New Orleans, Seattle, Charleston, and Buffalo.
Canada remained top supplier of ferrous scrap to United States –
Canada supplied highest 0.25 MnT ferrous scrap to United States in Oct’17 followed by other major exporters like Mexico, Sweden and Netherland each supplied 0.03 MnT ferrous scrap to United States in Oct’17. Japan exported 0.02 MnT ferrous scrap while United Kingdom remained silent with nil exports to United States in Oct’17.
During Jan-Oct’17, Canada exported highest 2.57 MnT ferrous scrap to United States occupying 69% share of total ferrous scrap imports. United Kingdom remained second largest exporter to United States with 0.43 MnT ferrous scrap exports followed by Mexico (0.23 MnT), Sweden (0.21 MnT), Netherland (0.18 MnT) and Japan (0.07 MnT) respectively.
