USA – world’s second largest exporter of ferrous scrap after EU-28 (Europe) has witnessed its 14 months highest ferrous scrap exports in Oct’17. Earlier to this, ferrous scrap exports was registered highest in Aug’16 with 1.69 MnT. Notably, USA witnessed its fourth consecutive rise in monthly scrap exports in Oct’17 since Jul’17.
As per recently released customs data, United States has exported 1.47 MnT ferrous scrap in Oct’17, which is rise by 16% M-o-M against 1.27 MnT exports in Sept’17.Likely, in yearly comparison ferrous scrap exports registered a rise of 23% Y-o-Y in Oct’17 as ferrous scrap exports were 1.20 MnT in Oct’16.
During the first ten months of CY17 (Jan-Oct’17), United States exported 11.78 MnT ferrous scrap with the hike of 14% against 10.32 MnT exports during the same period of last year.
Top loading ports in US for scrap shipping activities were Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Boston.
Turkey remained top importer of US ferrous scrap –
USA continued to supply the highest share of ferrous scrap exports to Turkey (0.30 MnT, -45% M-o-M) followed by Mexico (0.12 MnT, +50% M-o-M) and Thailand (0.11 MnT, +1000% M-o-M) in Oct’17. China imported 0.08 MnT (-27% M-o-M) ferrous scrap and stood as fourth largest scrap importer from United States in Oct’17.
Other major importers from United States in Oct’17 were Taiwan (0.07 MnT) and Canada (0.06 MnT) with no change on M-o-M basis. Followed by Vietnam (0.06 MnT) India (0.05 MnT) and Pakistan (0.04 MnT) respectively.
During Jan-Oct’17, United States exported highest 2.86 MnT ferrous scrap to Turkey occupying 24% share of total ferrous scrap exports. Mexico remained second largest importer at 1.46 MnT ferrous scrap imports followed by Taiwan (1.09 MnT), China (0.81 MnT), Canada (0.67 MnT) and Vietnam (0.51 MnT) respectively.
India, Bangladesh and Pakistan continued scrap imports from USA –
During first ten months of CY17, India imported 0.58 MnT ferrous scrap from US while Bangladesh and Pakistan both Imported 0.51 MnT ferrous scrap during Jan-Oct’17.
