USA – largest exporter of ferrous scrap has witnessed a drop in its exports by 9 % M-o-M with 1.05 MnT exports in May’17 against 1.15 MnT exports in Apr’17.
If yearly comparison, ferrous scrap exports noted drop of 14% as it was 1.22 MnT in May’16,
However, during the period Jan-May’17, United States has registered 5.22 MnT ferrous scrap exports showing a hike of 15% against 4.54 MnT exports during Jan-May’16.
Turkey remains top importer of US Ferrous Scrap- US continued to supply the highest share of ferrous scrap to Turkey (0.18 MnT) followed by Mexico (0.15 MnT), India (0.17 MnT), Taiwan (0.12 MnT), Pakistan (0.08 MnT) and China (0.05 MnT).
India and Pakistan raised scrap imports from US – Unlike previous trends, India and Pakistan have raised bulk ferrous scrap imports from US, as exports from US to India and Pakistan have witnessed monthly increase of 183% and 166% respectively in May’17.

Ferrous scrap imports to US down 25% M-o-M in May’17 – Scrap imports stood at 0.37 MnT, down 25% M-o-M in May’17 against 0.49 MnT in Apr’17. On yearly basis, imports have come down 12 % against 0.42 MnT in May’16. During the first five months of CY17, total imports of ferrous scrap in the nation noted at 1.94 MnT, up 26% against 1.54 MnT during Jan-May’16.
Canada supplied highest, 0.27 MnT of scrap to US in May’17 followed by the United Kingdom (0.05 MnT), Mexico (0.02 MnT) and Japan (0.02 MnT).
