Ukraine Billet Exports Fall 30% in May’18

Ukraine has exported about 0.45 MnT Billet in May 2018, according to trade statistics released by Department State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

The exports registered a fall of 30.76% M-o-M in May’18 against 0.65 MnT in Apr’18. During May’18, Billet imports to Italy from Ukraine fall by 12% & stood at 0.16 MnT. Inline on monthly premises exports to Egypt, Algeria, Bulgaria & Hungary decline in May’18 as against Apr’18.

In the duration of CY18 (Jan- May), the country’s total export for billet was at an around 2.71 MnT, surge by 4.23% Y-o-Y in the same duration. And the major buyers of Ukrainian billet during 2018 (Jan-May) was – Italy 0.88 MnT (32.38%), Turkey 0.54 MnT (19.91%), Egypt 0.34 MnT (12.52%) & Algeria 0.28 MnT (10.20%).

In the month of May 2018, the crude steel production of Ukraine was around 1.70 MnT and in CY18 (Jan-May) it was approximately 9.13 MnT. Prior to this it was at 1.69 MnT in May’17 & 9.37 MnT in CY17 (Jan-May).

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 495-505/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 485-495/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 530-540/MT FoB China.

United States continues to remain the largest Pig iron buyer of Ukraine –

Ukrainian Pig iron exports increased sharply by 94% M-o-M & stood at 0.33 MnT in May’18. United States has imported approximately 72% (0.24 MnT)Ukrainian Pig Iron, surge by more than 150% M-o-M against 0.09 MnT in April 2018.

In line out of total Pig iron exports from the nation in Jan-May’18, United States procured approximately 53.60% (0.73 MnT) of total quantity, followed by Italy & Turkey was the major Pig Iron importer of Ukraine which imported around 0.22 MnT (16.57%) & 0.14 MnT (10.16%), respectively.

Presently, the export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 380-390/MT FoB Black Sea, USD 375-380/MT FoB Brazil & at USD 370-375/MT FoB India.
