U.S. Pig iron Imports Fall 10% in July

United States, the world’s largest pig iron importer, imported about 532,142 MT pig iron in Jul’18, fall slightly than the imports during Jun’18.

The nation’s Pig iron imports decline by 10.16% M-o-M in Jul’18 over decreased demand as against 590,659 MT in Jun’18. In line on yearly basis imports fall by 25.35% against 713,463 MT in Jul’17

During Jul’18 major imports was reported from Russia approximately 63% (335,086 MT), Ukraine (194,657 MT) and rest quantities being imported from Canada. However the customs shows that no major imports seen to the nation from Brazil & South Africa.

Coming to total imports in CY18 (Jan-Jul’18), the nation has imported about 3,483,523 MnT Pig Iron; surge by 12.92% as compared to 3,084,751 MT in the same preceding last year. Russia, Ukraine & Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 1,890,285 MT (54.26%), 1,104,401 MT (31.70%) & 336,902 MT (9.67%), respectively.

As per the SteelMint analysis, in the month of Jul’18 , the crude steel production of United States was around 7,275,000 MT, surge by 6.25% M-o-M against 6,847,000 MT in Jun’18 and in CY18(Jan-Jul) it was approximately 48,688,000 MT, surge by 2% against 47,729,000 MT in CY17 (Jan-Jul)

Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 370-375/MT FoB Black Sea & USD 365-370/MT FoB Brazil.
