U.S. Imports of Pig iron Increase 24% in H1 CY18

United States- world’s largest importer for Pig iron reported incline in imports by 24% in H1 CY18, the recent released data by US customs showed.

The nation has imported about 2.95 MnT Pig iron in the H1 CY18 against 2.38 MnT in the same duration in 2017.

Inline, in the month of Jun’18, imports stood at 0.59 MnT against 0.39 MnT in Jun’17, surge up by 51.28% Y-o-Y.

During the period of H1 CY18, the largest exporter of Pig iron to United States was Russia, whose export to the nation was recorded at 1.56 MnT against 1.32 MnT in H1 CY17, which was up by around 18.18% Y-o-Y.

While in the year of H1 CY18, Russia has contributed around 52.69% of Pig iron exports to United States, followed by major exporters like – Ukraine (0.91 MnT), Brazil (0.34 MnT), South Africa (0.10 MnT) & Latvia (0.04 MnT).

The crude steel production of United States was around 41.41 MnT in H1 CY18 higher by 1.84% against 40.66 MnT in the same period of 2017. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 81.95 MnT, & 78.66 MnT in CY16.

Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 380-390/MT FoB Black Sea, USD 375-380/MT FoB Brazil & USD 370-375/MT FoB India.

Billet imports to USA Decline

United States Billet imports decreased sharply by 21.03% & stood at 2.59 MnT in H1 CY18. Russia has exported approximately 38% (0.99 MnT) billets to USA, decline by 9.17% against 1.09 MnT in H1 CY17. Inline billet imports from Brazil fall by 39% & stood at 0.88 MnT in H1 CY18 as against 1.44 MnT in H1 CY17

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 495-505/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 485-495/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 530-540/MT FoB China.
