Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled almost 5.97 million net tons in July, a 72% increase over July 2009’s 3.47 MT. However, shipments were about 6% below the month’s five-year average of 6.31 MT.
Duluth shipped 542,270 tonnes of Iron ore in July, compared to 926,839 tonnes in July 2009 and a five-year average for the month of 896,002 tonnes. For the year, Duluth shipped 2.83 MT through July, compared to 2.58 MT at the same time last year and a five-year average of 3.46 MT.
Two Harbors shipped 1.46 MT in July, compared to 188,672 tonnes in July 2009 and a five-year average for the month of 1.21 MT. For the year, Two Harbors had shipped 7.49 MT through July, compared to 2.39 MT at the same time last year and a five-year average of 5.91 MT.
Silver Bay shipped 686,556 tonnes in July, compared to 229,742 tonnes in July 2009 and a five-year average for the month of 559,508 tonnes. For the year, Silver Bay had shipped 3.73 MT through July, compared to 543,663 tonnes at the same time last year and a five-year average of 2.47 MT.
