Two More Bulk Scrap Import Vessels Reported In Bangladesh

As per recent customs data maintained with SteelMint, two more bulk ferrous scrap import vessels are reported in Bangladesh.

Out of two vessels one was booked from USA and another one from Japan. The first vessel named ‘Rich Ocean 17’ carrying 9,310 MT scrap was loaded from Kawasaki port, Japan has already arrived at anchorage on 6th Sept’17.

Another vessel named ‘Otago harbour’ carrying 29,210 MT ferrous scrap was booked from Oakland port, USA and it is expected to arrive on the port of Bangladesh on 10 Sept’17.

Apart from these two vessels, six vessels carrying quantity of 162,700 MT scrap has arrived at anchorage earlier.

Bangladesh has sharply increased its ferrous scrap imports in this fiscal. Bangladesh had almost doubled its ferrous scrap imports in Aug’17 against 20,050 MT imports in Jul’17.In Aug’17, scrap imports summed up to 41,600 MT up 108 % M-o-M while 27,400 MT steel billet imported in Aug’17 against nil imports of Jul’17 in Bangladesh.

In the present scenario, most of the market participants are returning back from Eid holidays and inquiries for fresh bookings are gaining momentum.
