Turkey: Pig Iron Imports Continues to be Stable

Turkey, the world’s 3rd largest Pig iron importer has imported about 90,000 MT Pig iron in July 2017, according to trade statistics released by Turkey’s custom.

The nation’s monthly imports for pig iron is almost firm in July 2017, which is similar against in June 2017. On the contrary, imports were down by 10% Y-o-Y against 100,00 MT in July’16.

Further, on yearly premises, in first 7 months of CY 2017 (Jan-Jul), the imports is down by 27.70% to 470,000 MT against same preceding last year at 650,000 MT.

Country wise:

Turkey’s pig iron import in July’17 were exported by two nations that are – Russia & Ukraine at 70,000 MT & 20,000 MT, respectively

Similarly, in the total Pig Iron imports during 2017 (Jan-Jul’17), the major sellers of pig iron to Turkey was – Russia (56.35%), Ukraine (26.29%), Germany (7.81%) & India (5.24%).

Key Updates

1. In the month of July 2017, Turkey imported approximately 0.93 MnT of iron ore, which is up by 22.36 % against June’17. And the major imports were done from Brazil, Sweden & Ukraine.

2. Substitutes like Scrap imports also gain in Tukey approximately 57% on monthly basis to 2.02 MnT in July’17 against 1.29 MnT in June’17.

3. Presently, export offers of basic grade Pig iron are at USD 360/MT FoB India & USD 370/MT FoB Russia.

4. Imported scrap (HMS 80:20) offers are currently in Turkey at USD 355-357/MT, CFR.
