According to the latest customs data, Turkey flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) has imported 7.94 MnT in CY17 as compared with 7.76 MnT in CY16.
Competitive import prices and strong domestic demand can be attributed for rise in Turkey flat steel imports in CY 17.Also HRC import volumes in Turkey will continue to rise in CY18 amid reduction of import duty from all suppliers to 3.5% which was earlier at 5% for re rollers from 1st Jan’18.
On yearly basis nation’s flat steel import volumes shown the marginal rise of 2% to 0.59 MnT in Dec’17 against 0.58 MnT in Dec’16.
However on monthly basis Turkey flat steel imports reported decline by 20% in Dec‘17 as compared to 0.74 MnT in Nov’17.

Russia flat steel exports to Turkey up 38% in CY17 – Russia was the major flat steel exporter to Turkey and has exported 2.70 MnT of flat steel and has occupied 34% of share in the tenure of CY17.
Other major flat steel importing nations of Turkey are France stood at 0.70 MnT (8.83%),Ukraine 0.62 MnT (7.77%) and South Korea at 0.59 MnT (7.48%).
However on monthly basis in Dec’17 Turkey has imported 0.16 MnT of flat steel from Russia, up by 14% to 0.14 MnT in Nov’17.Other major exporters were France, Ukraine ,South Korea followed by Belgium and Germany.
