Turkey has increased the production of commercial grades flat steel in recent years.However nearly half of flat steel consumption is met through imports.Almost 85% of imports are made from Europe and CIS nation’s.
According to the latest customs data, Turkey flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have declined significantly by 7%, Y-o-Y basis to 0.68 MnT in Mar’17 as compared to previous year. In Mar’16 the same stood at 0.73 MnT.
On monthly basis, Turkey flat steel imports surged by whooping 28% in Mar’17 against 0.53 MnT in Feb’17 .
Notably, on Q-o-Q basis Turkey flat steel imports were reported at 1.82 MnT decline by 15% against 2.15 MnT in similar quarter of previous year.
Grade-Wise Turkey Flat Steel Imports:As per grade-wise analysis, 7208 imports edge up by 44.37% M-o-M in Mar’17 against Feb’17 whereas grade like 7209 and 7210 also witnessed the growth in Mar’17.Moreover other flat steel grades like 7212 and 7225 seen declining in the month of Mar’17 against Feb’17.

Country-Wise Turkey Flat Steel imports in Mar’17
Russia was the major flat steel exporter and has shipped 3,06,741 MT of flat steel to Turkey in Mar’17 against 1,97,258 MT of flat steel in Feb’17. Other major exporting countries include France, South Korea, followed by Romania and Germany.
