Turkey is the sixth largest importer of steel and has imported 0.66 MnT of flat steel in Jan’18. Russia stood as the largest exporter accounted for 27% share in Jan’18.
According to the latest customs data, Turkey flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) stood at 0.66 MnT, up by 12% M-o-M basis in Jan’18. In Dec’17 nation’s flat steel imports stood at 0.59 MnT .
On yearly comparison nation’s flat steel import volumes witnessed significant rise of 27% in Jan’18 as compared to 0.52 MnT in similar month of previous year.
During CY17 nation’s flat steel import volumes stood at 7.94 MnT as compared to 7.76 MnT in CY16.
Turkey reduced import duty on HRC intended for re-rollers-Recently the country has reduced the import duty on HRC imports for re rollers to 3.5% from 5% in the month of January’18. Also the country has removed 10% duty on rebar imports.
Reports say that imports from countries like Russia and Ukraine may increase further amid reduced import duties.

Country-Wise Flat Steel Imports in Jan’18 – Russia was the major flat steel exporter to Turkey and has exported 0.18 MnT of flat steel (occupying 27% of share) and up by 11% as compared to 0.16 MnT in Dec’17.
Other major flat steel exporting nations to Turkey are France stood at 0.06 MnT,moved down by 14% M-o-M basis against 0.07 MnT in Dec’17.
Imports from Spain remain stable from last two months and recorded at 0.06 MnT.
Followed by Ukraine which stood at 0.05 MnT up by 25% on monthly basis against 0.04 MnT and South Korea at 0.04 MnT fall by 33% against 0.06 MnT in Dec’17.
