According to the recent customs data,Turkey flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) jumped by 15% on monthly basis in Apr’18.
Nation’s flat steel imports stood at 0.68 MnT in Apr’18 in comparison with 0.59 MnT in Mar’18.
However on yearly basis the same moved up again by 15% in Apr’18 against 0.59 MnT in preceding year.
During first four months of CY18 (Jan-Apr) nations’ flat steel export volumes increases by 5% to 2.47 which was 2.36 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
Demand for flat steel likely to remain slow in coming months-In coming months demand for flat steel in Turkey will remain moderate amid Islamic holy month of Ramadan which is scheduled in the month of May.This will be followed by the seasonally slow months of June and July.
Also,Turkey will hold presidential elections on June 24, and this may bring some uncertainty to the market.
Commodity wise flat steel imports in Apr’18- HRC/Plates import volume increases whereas CRC imports witness decline in Apr’18.

Country-Wise Turkey Flat Steel Imports in Apr’18 – Russia stood as a major flat steel importer and has procured 0.25 MnT of flat steel in Apr’18 which is higher by 47% against 0.17 MnT in Mar’18.
France,Ukraine and South Korea stood at 0.05 MnT in Apr’18.However Germany stood at 0.03 MnT in Apr’18 decline by 25% against 0.04 MnT in Mar’18.
