Turkey flat steel exports plunge by 30% in Jan’19- Nation’s flat steel exports on monthly basis dropped by 30% to 0.61 MnT in Jan’19 as compared to 0.87 MnT in Dec’18.
Imposition of safeguard measures lead to decline in export volumes-The announcement of USA tariffs by Trump administration in Oct’18 confirming import duty of 50% on Turkish steel which was 25% previously, took toll on flat steel exports as Turkey lost access to its major export markets
Meanwhile European Commission also imposed safeguard measures in Jul’18 to protect the domestic steelmakers from cheaper imports affected export volumes from Turkey.
However,on the yearly basis nations export volumes registered an increase by 42% to 0.61 Mnt in Jan’19 against 0.43 MnT in Jan’18.
Country-wise Turkey Flat Steel Exports in Jan’19- Turkey exported majorly to Italy 0.17 MnT, Portugal 0.05 MnT, Bulgaria 0.05 MnT, followed by United Kingdom 0.04 MnT and Spain 0.04 MnT in Jan’19.
Turkey Finish Long steel exports decline by 11% in Jan’19- As per custom data,nation’s long steel exports stood at 0.82 MnT in Jan’19 fell by 11% on monthly basis against 0.92 MnT in Dec’18.
As per market reports country’s finish long steel export volumes reported fall as the Turkey started exporting billets by replacing long steel.Meanwhile Turkey also reported decline in crude steel production by 11% at 2.57 MnT in Jan’19 against 2.89 MnT in Dec’18.
On yearly basis the same went up by 4% in Jan’19 as compared to 0.79 MnT in same month of previous year.
Country-wise Turkey Finish Long Steel exports in Jan’19- Yemen is the major long steel importing nation of Turkey at 0.16 MnT. Second major importing nation include Israel at 0.09 MnT in Jan’19.
Following this other major importing nations include United Kingdom at 0.08 MnT,Netherlands at 0.05 MnT and Romania at 0.05 MnT in Jan’19.
