Turkey’s coal import has increased 9% Y-o-Y during the first six months of the CY18. As per the data provided by Turkish customs, the country had imported 20.76 MnT coal during Jan’18-Jun’18 against 19.06 MnT in Jan’17-Jun’17.
On the monthly basis, Turkey’s import stood 3.48 MnT in Jun’18, with the country securing a 4-month high total from its major coal supplier, Colombia.
However, Turkey’s total coal imports in Jun’18 had fell 9% M-o-M from 3.81 MnT in May’18, but were still 13% higher on the year compared with 3.07 MnT in Jun’17.
Grade-wise Coal Imports in H1 CY18:
Imports of all coal grades have recorded growth during the half year period. Turkish imports of non-coking coal increased 6% Y-o-Y to 14.33 MnT in H1 CY18.
Pet coke was the second second-largest imported grade in the half year period, import of which had surged 32% Y-o-Y to 2.83 MnT in H1 CY18. Coking coal imports were marked 2.65 MnT, up 2% Y-o-Y from 2.6 MnT in H1 CY17.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Exporters in H1 CY18:
Colombia remained the largest coal exporter to Turkey in H1 CY18, registering a remarkable growth of 21% on the year-on-year basis. Export during the first six months of CY18 stood 9.19 MnT compared to 7.6 MnT in the same period last year.
Russia was the second-largest coal exporter, but the country had witnessed a fall of 6% in coal supplies to Turkey during H1 CY18.
US coal exports to Turkey increased 24% Y-o-Y to 3.38 MnT in H1 CY18 compared with 2.73 MnT in H1 CY17. Other major exporters were- Australia, South Korea, Canada and China.
