Turkey’s coal imports have grew 34% on the month in Jul’18, to record its highest monthly imports in CY18.
According to the data provided by Turkish customs, the country has imported 4.66 MnT coal in Jul’18, against 3.48 MnT in Jun’18. Besides, imports in Jul’18 were marked 17% higher on the year from 4 MnT in Jul’17.
Turkey’s remarkable growth in coal imports came on the back of record coal receipt from its major supplier-Colombia, in the month.
As a consequence of the surge in imports, country’s total coal import has reached 25.42 MnT during the first 7 months of CY18 (Jan’18-Jul’18), up 10% Y-o-Y against 23.06 MnT recorded during the same period last year.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Non-coking coal imports increased 45% M-o-M to 3.48 MnT, accounting for nearly 75% of the total monthly imports in Jul’18.
Imports of Pet coke and Anthracite too had moved up during the month, which were recorded at 0.46 MnT and 0.12 MnT respectively in Jul’18.
However, Coking coal imports undergo slight fall on the month, which were recorded at 0.57 MnT in Jul’18 against 0.59 MnT in Jun’18.

Quantity in MnT
Major coal Exporters:
Colombia remained the largest coal supplier in Jul’18. The country has in fact recorded its highest monthly coal export to Turkey during the month. Exports increased 28% M-o-M to 2.13 MnT in Jul’18, which were also 24% higher on the year from 1.72 MnT in Jul’17.
Russian coal exports jumped 45% on the month to 1.33 MnT in Jul’18, also rising 8% on the year from 1.23 MnT in Jul’17.
US was the third largest coal exporter during the month. The country had supplied 0.89 MnT coal to Turkey in Jul’18, with an increase of 37% M-o-M from 0.65 MnT in Jun’18.
