Turkey’s coal import in Jul’17 has increased both on the monthly and yearly basis, according to the trade data released by Turkish customs.
Coal import from the country was recorded 4 MnT in Jul’17, up 30% M-o-M compared with 3.07 MnT in Jun’17. Imports in Jul’17 were also 7% higher than the coal import of 3.75 MnT in Jul’16.
Total coal imported by Turkey stood 23.06 MnT in CY17 (till Jul’17) with a minor drop from 23.33 MnT coal attained during Jan’16-Jul’16 period.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Non coking coal had a share of about 70% in total coal imports during the month. Imports of Non-coking coal increased 27% M-o-M to 2.83 MnT in Jul’17.
While Imports of Coking coal zoomed 178% M-o-M to 0.64 MnT, Pet coke imports dipped 22% M-o-M to 0.35 MnT in Aug’17.
Apart from the above mentioned coal commodities, Anthracite and Met coke were also imported in small quantities during the month.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Exporters:
Colombia and Russia continue to hold highest share in monthly coal exports to Turkey, with the two countries supplying more than 70% of the total coal in Jul’17.
Colombian coal exports were up 64% M-o-M to 1.72 MnT in Jul’17, which was also the highest monthly export recorded from the country during the year.
Russia was the second-largest coal exporter. Exports from the country fell 11% M-o-M to 1.23 MnT in Jul’17, but remained strong Y-o-Y compared with 0.98 MnT in Jul’16.
USA, the third-largest coal exporter witnessed a drop of 25% in monthly coal exports to Turkey. Coal export was recorded at 0.36 MnT in Jul’17, which was also 35% lower on the year compared with 0.55 MnT in Jul’16.
