Turkey’s monthly coal imports recorded a significant downfall of 20% in Aug’16. Besides, yearly imports also noted a fall of 9% as compared to Aug’15.
Turkey, one of the largest coal importers in the world, has imported about 3 MnT, coal in Aug’16, recorded the forth lowest imported quantity of the year (Since Jan’16). The country’s imports down by 20% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports down by 9% which was at 3.3 MnT in Aug’15. As per to Turkey customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 70% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Coking, Anthracite, Coke and Pet coke.

Quantity in MnT
In the first eight months of 2016 (Jan’16-Aug’16), the coal imports has increased by 8% to 26.3 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Aug’16
Russia, the largest supplier to Turkey, shipped about 1.2 MnT coal in Aug’16 with a remarkable rise by 17% compared with Jul’16 and rose by more than 12% on yearly basis.
Colombia, the second-largest coal exporter to Turkey, exported about 1 MnT coal in Aug’16 with a remarkable down by 41% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a decline of 10% which was 1.1 MnT in Aug’15.
UAS, the third largest coal exporter to Turkey, shipped around 0.5 MnT coal in during the month, down by 12% M-o-M. in contrast, recorded a growth of 12% on yearly basis.
