Billet Imports in Turkey drifted three-years low in CY18 after recorded all-time high in 2015, as per the recent released data by Turkey’s custom.
The nation has imported about 4,559,319 MT Billet in 2018 against 4,639,603 MT in 2017, plunged by 1.73% on yearly premises.
In Dec’18, Turkey Billet imports are reported at 275,100 MT against 314,314 MT in Nov’18, decline by 12.48% on monthly premises. Further on yearly basis, the data shows billet imports fall by 38% Y-o-Y in Dec’18 against 444,325 MT in Dec’17.
As per the data, the largest exporter of Billet to Turkey in Dec’18 was Russia 154,477 MT & Ukraine at 64,979 MT. Similarly, in the total Billet imports during 2018 (Jan-Dec), the major sellers of Billet to Turkey was – Russia (49.99%), Ukraine (20.02%), Brazil (12.88%), Egypt (2.70%) & United Kingdom (2.67%).
Further, Billet imports from the major countries like Ukraine, Brazil, Netherlands & Belarus decline by 18%, 33%, 35% & 32% on yearly basis in CY18. Inline, it was also come in line that no major Billet import were recorded from China & Iran.
In the month of Dec’18 Turkey’s crude steel production decline by 7.36% & stood at 2,886,329 MT and in Nov’18 it was approximately 3,140,796 MT. Meanwhile, in CY18 the figure of crude steel production stood at 37,141,333 MT & 37,331,377 MT in CY17.

— The reference index price for US origin HMS (80:20) scrap stood at USD 328/MT, CFR Turkey. The average import price for USA HMS (80:20) stood at USD 343-345/MT, CFR Turkey in 2018 up USD 40-45/MT against USD 300-302/MT, CFR in 2017.
— CIS nations Billet export offers for Turkey are assessed at USD 455-465/MT CNF Turkey , as per our last week assessment.
— Turkey scrap imports observed a marginal drop by 2% Y-o-Y in 2018 & stood at 20,616,955 MT in 2018 as against 20,935,694 MT during the last year.
— Turkey has recorded fall in iron ore imports in CY18. The total imports dropped to 10.74 MnT in CY18, as against 10.96 MnT in CY17. Brazil marked the largest exporter of iron ore to Turkey in CY18 at 4.63 MnT.
— Pig iron Imports in Turkey rise by 28.38% Y-o-Y in CY18 & stood at 298,573 MT Pig iron against 1,011,471 MT in CY17.
