Turkey Billet Imports lessen by 15% in Feb’18

Billet Imports in Turkey drifted down by around 15% M-o-M in Feb’18 as per the recent released data by Turkey’s custom showed.

As per the customs, the nation has imported about 400,000 MT Billet in February 2018 against 470,000 MT in January 2018, plunged by 15% on monthly premises. While on yearly basis, imports have seen steep hike by 25% against 320,000 MT in February 2017.

It seems that rise in scrap imports on competitive prices, than the higher billet offers amid less availability resulting fall in billet imports to the nation. Turkey’s scrap import geared up more than 10% in Feb’18 with 1.85 MnT against 1.68 MnT in Jan’18.

During Feb’18, Turkey’s scrap import prices reported at around USD 347-358/MT CNF (HMS 80:20, Origin – USA) and didn’t noticed any major amendments on the other hand billet import price range got slightly high fluctuations W-o-W basis and recorded in the range of USD 509-524/MT CNF (Size – 125*125).

Further, in the month of Feb’18, the billet imports from Russia dropped by 32% against 280,000 MT in Jan’18 and monthly contribution registered 47.5% with 0.19 MnT out of total imports i:e; 0.40 MnT.
