Turkey Billet Imports Analysis, June 2017

Turkey, the one of the world’s largest importer for billet & scrap, has imported about 0.27 MnT billet in June 2017, fresh released data by Turkey’s custom showed.

The imports of billet have registered a downfall of 12.90 % M-o-M in June’17 against 0.31 MnT in May’17. On the contrary Y-o-Y, imports were down by 64.90%  against 0.77 MnT in June’16.

On yearly premises against H1 CY 2016, the imports is down by 40.72% in H1 CY 2017, from 3.61 MnT (H1 2016) to 2.14 MnT (H1 2017).

Country wise:

During June 2017, the largest exporter of Billet to Turkey was Russia – 0.83 MnT, Ukraine – 0.64 MnT & Brazil at 0.31 MnT.

Similarly, in the total billet imports during 2017 (Jan-Jun’17), the major sellers of billet to Turkey was – Russia (38.69%), Ukraine (29.67%), Brazil (14.66%), Iran (3.60%) & Netherlands (2.53%).

2.The reference price index for US origin HMS 1 & 2(80:20) and Shredded scrap stood at USD 329-330/MT & USD 332-335 /MT, CFR Turkey

3. Turkey, world’s second largest rebar exporter, imported rebar at 18,000 MT from Italy and 5,000 MT from Georgia in June 2017 (Sources).

4. Presently, the billet import offers of furnaces grade billet (size 120×120 to 150×150 mm) into Turkey rose to USD 460-465/MT CFR, from the last week’s USD 440-452/MT

5. Domestic rebar prices in Turkey have increased W-o-W by USD 5-15/MT to USD 500-515/MT ex-works.
