Odisha based transporters go on indefinite strike, which will impact supply of minerals from Odisha severely.
Odisha based transporters have gone for an indefinite strike in order to oppose state government’s decision to fix a ceiling on transportation charges.
The Odisha government on 17 Jun’15 decided to fix ceiling prices for mineral transportation in each mineral bearing district of the state, which was to be implemented from 1 Jul’15.
This decision has been taken to control truck owners and agencies charging high rates for transportation of minerals.
No Movement of Minerals from Odisha w.e.f 20 Jul’15
Sources confirmed that iron ore movement from the state has come to a stand still from today as transport unions of different mineral bearing regions has joined the protest.
“There has been no movement of iron ore from mines from today and will continue till the state government and other stakes holders come to an conclusion,” said an executive at one of the large merchant mines in Odisha.
Odisha Iron Ore Production
Odisha is the largest iron ore producing state in the country, which contributes about 40-45% of India’s total production of 125 MnT in FY16 and 150 MnT in FY15. If strike continues for a long time, iron ore supply will certainly get hampered.
