Production of Iron ore in India, consisting of lumps, fines and concentrates, at almost 142 MnT in FY14 improved by 4.4% against 136.02 MnT in FY13. This growth is chiefly because of better numbers from the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
During the year under review, Odisha was the primary Iron ore producing state, accounting for nearly 50% of nation’s total production, followed by Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Karnataka.
The top 10 leading Iron ore producing companies, namely NMDC, SAIL, TISCO, Rungta Mines, Serajuddin Mines, Sarda Mines, KJS Ahluwalia, Indrani Patnaik, Essel Mining and AMTC, contributed around 80% of India’s total Iron ore production.
In FY14
- NMDC – Achieved 30.2 MnT production, highest ever since inception
- Rungta Mines – Produced nearly 12 MnT Iron ore from Odisha based mines
- Serajuddin Mines – EC limit was raised to 15.15 MnT by the state government; was 4.5 MnT earlier
