With iron ore exports from India almost on verge of closure, increased supply of iron fines in domestic market has made miners to cut offers.Industry experts believe that cheap availability of raw material gives pellet manufacturers enough room to cut offers.
“Considering iron ore fines of 63% Fe prices around Rs 2,300/t in Barbil, Odisha and pellet conversion costs around Rs 2,500/t.Total cost comes out to be Rs 4,800-5,000/t (incld interest) where as pellet is being sold at Rs 7,500/t. We feel there is ample room and if demand slows down manufacturers will not hesitate slashing prices drastically.” said an industry veteran based in Bhubhaneshwar, Odisha.
