Thailand steel imports from raw material to finished steel, tumbled m-o-m in May’20, as per the custom data maintained with SteelMint. One of the factors behind sharp decline was slow consumption of finished long steel amid stalled construction activities including a number of public-private partnership (PPP) projects affected due to Covid-19 outbreak.
- Ferrous scrap imports registered at 0.06 mn t in May’20, plunged by 53.8% as compared to 0.13 mn t in Apr’20.
- Semi-finished (billet) imports reported at 0.15 mn t in May’20, down by 25% against 0.2 mn t in Apr’20.
- Finished long steel import volumes registered at 0.06 mn t in May’20, decreased by 45.45% as against 0.11 mn t in the previous month.
- Finished flat steel imports fell by 31.2% to 0.53 mn t in May’20 against 0.77 mn t in Apr’20.
- Graphite Electrode imports dropped by 19.2% and totaled at 521 t in May’20 as against 645 t in Apr’20.
