Thailand has registered down fall in its monthly Finish long steel Imports by 7% in Jan’19 and registered at 77,684 MT against 83,138 MT in Dec’18.
As per analysis, Vietnam & Malaysia two usual finish long steel exporters to Thailand, which has been narrow down widely in their export volumes and dropped by 75% and 53% respectively during Jan’19.
On monthly comparison, the Finish long steel exports was moved down by around 6.56% to 77,684 MT in Jan’19 as compared to 83,138 MT in Dec’18 (M-o-M).
On contrary Y-o-Y, Thailand has imported about 77,684 MT Finish Long steel in Jan’19, moved up by 34.57% against 57,726 MT in Jan’18.
Under Finish Long commodities following HS Codes has been considered – Bar & Rod (HS Code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS Code 7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS Code 7215 & 7216).
Rebar contributed the major export proportionate during Jan’19 and registered at 50,215 MT (-26%) against 67,451 MT followed by Wire Rod 18,301 MT (+45%) against 12,627 MT and Structure at 9,168 MT (+200%) against 3,059 MT. The changes are mentioned are mentioned on M-o-M basis.
During Jan’19, the largest exporter of Finish Long Steel to Thailand was Japan – 27,706 MT (+1%), followed by China 21,890 MT (+117%) and South Korea at 7,372 MT (-12%). Meanwhile, India’s export figure registered at 2,745 MT in Jan’19 surge by 21% against 2,270 MT in Dec’18 and contributes around 4%.
As per reports few Thailand’s steelmaker have jointly submitted letter to the concern minister for highlighting the cheap bulk imports from China and letter further states to take necessary steps to save domestic steel industry.
