Billet imports in the Thailand reported a sharp gain of 87% M-o-M in Jan’19 & recorded the highest volume of imports since Nov’16, the trade statistics released by the custom reported.
In the month of Jan’19, the nation has imported around 456,907 MT billet against 244,469 MT in Dec’18. Prior to this the highest volume was imported during Nov’16 at 537,379 MT.
Further, on Y-o-Y in Jan 2019 imports registered a rise of 187.5% against 158,932 MT in Jan 2018.
Russia was the major billet exporter to Thailand in Jan’19, whose billet exports to Thailand increased by 188.50% M-o-M & stood at around 190,440 MT (41.68%), followed by Iran & Malaysia whose exports stood at 65,351 MT & 57,028 MT , respectively.
While the nation has imported about 2,112,358 MT Billet in Apr’18-Jan’19 against 1,473,547 MT in Apr’17-Jan’18, incline by 43.35% on yearly premises.
During the period of Apr’18-Jan’19, Iran has exported approximately 30.86% billet (651,910 MT) to the nation, followed by Japan (486,598 MT) & Russia (438,137 MT). Prior to this in the same preceding last year, Iran’s billet export to the nation was around 695,193 MT.
In the month of December 2018, the crude steel production of Thailand was around 310,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Dec) it was approximately 4,449,320 MT & in CY17 (Jan-Dec) at 4,225,000 MT.
Pig iron imports from Brazil increased Sharply
Russia continues to remain the largest Pig iron supplier to Thailand. However in Jan’19, Brazil topped the list with 37,457 MT Pig iron exports to the nation. While imports from Russia to Thailand recorded at 1,100 MT.
In the month of Jan’19, the nation has imported around 39,297 MT Pig iron & rise sharply as against 2,477 MT in Dec’18. While on Y-o-Y in Jan 2019 imports registered a rise of 83.6% against 21,400 MT in Jan 2018.
In context to export prices, global offers for steel grade Pig iron is assessed at USD 355-360/MT FoB India, USD 330-340/MT FOB Brazil & USD 335-345/MT FoB Black sea.
