The state government decided to allow 7 Iron ore mines for operation, which includes 4 mines of Tata Steel, 2 mines of SAIL and 1 mine of OMC.
Bhubaneswar: While the Odisha government has decided to renew the captive mines of Tata Steel and SAIL and one merchant mine of OMC, through an express order, it’ll take another 15 to 20 days to normalize operation. However, according to government sources, there should not be any Iron ore scarcity at the plants of SAIL and Tata Steel (Jamshedpur) as they have enough stocks at the mines head.
An internal government report says, Tata Steel has 2.75 MnT of Iron ore stocked at its mines Joda East, Katamati and Khandbandh Iron ore mines. In the Joda East mines, 0.23 MnT of Iron ore lumps and 0.38 MnT of fines have been stocked.
Similarly in Katamati, there are stocks of 0.47 MnT of lumps and 0.49 MnT of fines and there are stocks of 48,000 MT of lumps and 1.6 MnT of fines waiting for liquidation in Khandbandh. According to an estimate, the company would need 1-3 months of time for liquidation of stock.
Manwhile, Tata Steel has a stock of 33,205 MT of Manganese ore at its Khandabandh Iron ore and Manganese mines, Bamebari Manganese mines, Joda East Manganese mines, Guruda Manganese mines and Manmora Manganese mines.
On the other hand, PSU steelmaker, SAIL has about 2.5 MnT of Iron ore stocked at its Barsuan, Kalta and Bolani Iron ore mines, which includes 0.23 MnT of lumps and 2.26 MnT of fines.
Meanwhile, the only merchant mine in the list is OMC’s Kurmitar mines, which has 2.66 MnT of Iron ore stocked and would require 12 months of time for liquidation.
