Tata Power Seeks EOI for Overseas Coal Supplies

Tata Power has invited expression of interest (EOI) from global suppliers to procure coal for its Trombay thermal power station at Mumbai.

The power plant with an installed capacity of 930 MW includes 750 MW of two coal-based units, for which supply of ultra low sulphur and low ash coal has been intended on FoB basis.

Quantity and Period of Supply:

Annual coal requirement in the EOI has been stated at 2.2 MnT which is to be supplied for a tentative period of 2 years starting from Aug’20, and could be extendable up to another two years.

The intended shipment size varies upon the monsoon period which is specified below:

(a) During non-monsoon period: 60,000-75,000 MT
(b) During monsoon period: 45,000-55,000 MT, due to restricted draft availability at discharge port.

Tata power has highlighted that the monsoon period would be as per Mumbai port declaration.

Pre-Qualification requirement:

The bidder should quote coal supplies of minimum 0.8 MnTPA, delivered from a single coal mine and must meet the quality parameters mentioned below.

If the bidder is trader, then it should submit corporate guarantee from the miner. However, in case the bidder is a miner, then it should satisfy the following conditions:

(a) The miner must have relevant valid mining license in the respective country, till Dec’24.
(b) Ensure coal production from the proposed mine, of equal or more than average 3 MnTPA for last five years.
(c) Executed at least one single order of quantity equal or more than 0.8 MnT per annum for such coal.

The due date of submission of EOI along with all the relevant documents is 9th Mar 2020 by 17.00 Hrs (IST).
