Taiwan steel export statistics in Aug ’20

As per the data compiled by SteelMint, in Aug ’20, the export volumes of finished-long and finished flat stainless steel showed an increase for the third consecutive month, meanwhile, finished flat steel exports recovered from the decline in volumes in Jul ’20.

  • Finished flat steel- In Aug ’20 the export volume stood at 727,916 t, increased by 16% m-o-m against 625,984 t in Jul ’20, while declined by 9% y-o-y basis to 801,890 t in Aug ’19.

    The easing COVID-19 concerns in countries in the Asia Pacific regions led to improved demand. Meanwhile, the ramp-up of production by Taiwanese mills since mid-Jul ’20, and a weak downstream demand can also be attributed to the increased exports.

    The export volumes to China stood at 250,270 t, Vietnam 104,788 t, Malaysia at 70,520 t witnessed a monthly increase in volumes in Aug ’20. Other importing nations were Japan 65,416 t and United States at 41,969 t in Aug ’20.

  • Finished long- The export volume of finished long steel increased slightly by 2% on the month in Aug ’20 at 51,789 t compared with 50,615 t in Jul ’20, however, was slashed by 27% y-o-y.

    Major importing nations included China at 8,615 t, Hong Kong 8,586 t and Australia at 8,138 t in Aug ’20.

  • Finished flat stainless steel- The exports moved up by 13% to 59,365 t in Aug ’20 in comparison with 50,615 t a month ago, however, the annual decline was 17%.

    The leading importing nations were United States 4,730 t, Italy 4,381 t and UAE at 3,844 t in Aug ’20. Followed by Turkey 3,532 t and Thailand at 3,476 t.
