Taiwan: Iron Ore Imports up Marginally in CY’17

In CY’17, Taiwan witnessed a slight increase in imports of 4% to 23.67 MnT compared to 22.69 MnT in CY’16.

For the year CY’17, Taiwan recorded highest imports from Australia at 17.36 MnT, with 73% share of total imports, followed by Brazil at 4.78 MnT and Canada at 1.46 MnT. China’s iron ore export to Taiwan recorded nil in CY’17 as against 0.05 MnT in CY’16.

Taiwan has recorded marginal decline in imports in Dec’17 to 1.43 MnT as against 1.46 MnT in Nov’17. The Y-o-Y imports witnessed a decline of 3% in Dec’17 as against 1.47 MnT in Dec’16.

The Non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) imports witnessed an increase of 6% to 1.23 MnT in Dec’17 as against 1.16 MnT in Nov’17. However, it depicted slight decline in Y-o-Y imports in Dec’17 as against 1.26 MnT in Dec’16.

Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) imports recorded a decrease of 33% M-o-M to 0.2 MnT in Dec’17 as against 0.3 MnT in Nov’17. The Y-o-Y iron ore imports in Dec’17 witnessed slight decrease of 5% as compared to 0.21 MnT Dec’16.

Taiwan’s iron ore import in Dec’17 recorded highest from Australia at 1.14 MnT, with 80% share of total imports (up 24% M-o-M), followed by Brazil at 0.29 MnT, with 20% share (down 9% M-o-M).
