Taiwan Iron Ore Import Up by 12% in Aug’16

Taiwan, the world’s sixth largest iron ore importer has imported 2.17 MnT iron ore in Aug’16, according to the trade statistics released by Taiwan customs.

Iron ore imports have witnessed a growth of 12.4% M-o-M as it was 1.93 MnT in Jul’16. On similar lines, Taiwan iron ore imports increased by 57% Y-o-Y.

During the first eight months of 2016, the country imported 15.16 MnT iron ore, up by 6.4% Y-o-Y as it was 14.24 MnT in the same period prior this year.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Aug’16 was registered at 1.99 MnT, up by 31% M-o-M. However, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.18 MnT, significantly down by 56% M-o-M.

  1. Australia, the largest exporter of iron ore accounted for around 70% iron ore exports to Taiwan. In Aug’16, the country exported 1.55 MnT, up by 19% M-o-M and 76% Y-o-Y.
  2. Brazil, the second-largest iron ore exporter to Taiwan, exported 0.53 MnT iron ore in Aug’16, down by 15% M-o-M. The nation imported 0.43 MnT iron ore in Aug’15.
  3. Canada, the third largest iron ore exporter to Taiwan has exported 0.08 MnT iron ore in Aug’16 against zero exports in Jul’16. The nation imported 0.08 MnT iron ore in Aug’15.
