As per latest custom data,Taiwan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) fell by 21% M-o-M basis in Feb’18.
Nation has exported 0.63 MnT of flat steel in Feb’18 in comparison with 0.80 MnT in previous month.
On yearly premise nation’s flat steel export volumes slumped by 17% in Feb’18 as compare to 0.76 MnT in Feb’17.
During first two months (Jan-Feb) of CY18 nation exported 1.43 MnT of flat steel marginally up by 2% against 1.4 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
Nation’s export volumes decline significantly post imposition of USA tariffs under section 232 on steel by 25%.Few sources mentioned that on the issue of tariffs Taiwan was in talks with the U.S in order to come up with an alternative solution to avoid 25% tariff on imported steel and 10 % tariff on aluminum.
Although in 2017, the U.S. was the largest buyer of Taiwanese steel products, and the sixth-largest buyer of Taiwanese aluminum products.

Country-Wise Taiwan Flat Steel Exports in Feb’18- On monthly basis,Taiwan flat steel exports to Vietnam stood at 0.10 MnT in Feb’18 moved down by 23 % as compared to 0.13 MnT in Jan’18.
Other importing nation’s were China which stood at 0.08 MnT ,decline by 27% against 0.11 MnT in Jan’18.
Japan imported 0.08 MnT of flat steel from Taiwan,up by 14% in Feb’18 over 0.07 MnT in previous month.
Other major importing nations were Malaysia imported 0.04 MnT flat steel,USA at 0.01 MnT followed by South Korea at 0.04 MnT and Belgium at 0.03 MnT in Feb’18.
