Taiwan: Ferrous Scrap Imports Up 58% M-o-M in May’17

As per recent customs data maintained with SteelMint, Taiwan one of the prime scrap importer has witnessed 58% M-o-M rise in its ferrous scrap imports in May’17 against Apr’17.

Scrap imports to the country stood at 0.30 MnT in May’17 against 0.19 MnT in Apr’17. May’17 imports are highest so far in CY17 but down 19% Y-o-Y compared with ferrous scrap imports, which was at 0.37 MnT in May’16. The imports in May’16 were the highest in CY16.
In the first five month of CY17, Taiwan has imported 1.11 MnT ferrous scrap showing fall of 7.5% against the imports in the same period of CY16.

United States remained the top ferrous scrap supplier to Taiwan:

United States exported highest 0.15 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan in May’17 which has surged 87.5 % against 0.08 MnT in Apr’17.

Japan-second largest supplier of ferrous scarp to Taiwan has exported 0.04 MnT again in May’17, stable on monthly premises.China unlike previous months has raised scrap exports to Taiwan and exported 0.02 MnT in May’17.

Other major scrap exporters to Taiwan in May’17 were Australia (0.02 MnT) and Dominican Republic (0.01 MnT), Hong Kong (0.01 MnT), Canada (0.01MnT) respectively.

Russia and Puerto Rico exported 0.01 MnT scrap to Taiwan in May’17 making their first time in CY17.
