As per recently released customs data, Taiwan one of the world’s major scrap importer has witnessed sharp fall in its scrap imports by 29% M-o-M in Oct’17 against imports in Sept’17.Taiwan imported 0.15 MnT ferrous scrap in Oct’17 while the imports were 0.21 MnT in Sept’17.
This is country’s lowest monthly import since almost 2 years as in Sept’15 the country imported 0.12 MnT ferrous scrap. Notably, in Oct’17 the country witnessed the third consecutive fall in its monthly scrap imports since Aug’17.
Taiwan registered a decrease of 32% Y-o-Y in its ferrous scrap imports in Oct’17 against that of 0.22 MnT imports in Oct’16.
During first ten months of CY17, ferrous scrap imports to Taiwan summed up at 2.31 MnT which has shown a decline of 8% Y-o-Y against the 2.52 MnT imports during the same period of CY16.
United States remained the largest ferrous scrap supplier to Taiwan –
United States remained the largest exporter of ferrous scrap to Taiwan again in Oct’17.United States exported 0.07 MnT ferrous scrap in Oct’17 with 13% M-o-M fall against 0.08 MnT exports in Sept’17.
In Oct’17, China supplied second largest (0.02 MnT) volumes of ferrous scrap to Taiwan. Other major scrap exporters to Taiwan were Japan, Australia, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, South Korea and Canada with each of 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Oct’17.
During first ten months in CY17, United States exported highest 0.99 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan followed by Japan (0.35 MnT), China (0.29 MnT) and Australia (0.11 MnT).China hiked ferrous scrap exports to Taiwan by about fourteen times while Japan almost halved it against the exports in the same time frame of last year.
Imported ferrous scrap prices to Taiwan fell slightly in Oct’17 –
The scrap import prices to Taiwan remained mostly firm in October month and slightly fell against the prices in Sept’17.Monthly average prices for HMS (80:20) were at USD 292/MT and USD 282/MT, CNF Taiwan respectively in Oct’17 and Sept’17 while average prices in Aug’17 were at USD 287/MT, CNF Taiwan.
