Japan ferrous scrap exports to Taiwan fell 56% while Chinese exports increase ten times during Jan-Nov’17.
Taiwan one of the world’s major scrap importer has witnessed fall in its scrap imports by 10% during Jan-Nov’17 as against ferrous scrap imports in the country during the same time period of CY16. As per recently released customs data, Taiwan imported 2.46 MnT ferrous scrap during Jan-Nov’17 while the imports were at 2.74 MnT during Jan-Nov’16.
Taiwan imported 0.15 MnT ferrous scrap in Nov’17 which remained unchanged on monthly premises compared with ferrous scrap imports in Oct’17. Imports registered in Oct’17 and Nov’17 are country’s lowest monthly imports since 2 years as in Sept’15 the country imported 0.12 MnT ferrous scrap.
Taiwan registered a decrease of 32% Y-o-Y in its ferrous scrap imports in Nov’17 against that of 0.22 MnT imports in Nov’16.
United States remained the largest ferrous scrap supplier to Taiwan –
United States remained the largest exporter of ferrous scrap to Taiwan again in Nov’17.United States exported 0.06 MnT in Nov’17 with 14% M-o-M fall against 0.07 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Oct’17.
China and Hong Kong supplied 0.02 MnT ferrous scrap each to Taiwan in Nov’17, while Japan remained silent with nil scrap exports to Taiwan. Other major scrap exporters to Taiwan were South Korea and Canada with each of 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Nov’17.
During first eleven months in CY17, United States exported highest 1.05 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan followed by Japan (0.35 MnT), China (0.30 MnT), Australia (0.11 MnT) and Hong Kong (0.11 MnT).China hiked ferrous scrap exports to Taiwan by about ten times while Japan almost reduced it to half against the exports in the same time frame of last year.
Fall in scrap imports could be attributed to rise in imported scrap prices and tightened supply amid winter. Prices increased by USD 10/MT in November month against the prices in Oct’17.Monthly average prices for HMS (80:20) from USA were at USD 302/MT and 292/MT, CNF Taiwan respectively in Nov’17 and Oct’17 while average prices in Sept’17 were at USD 282/MT, CNF Taiwan.
