Taiwan: Feng Hsin’s rebar, scrap prices remain stable

  • US-origin HMS 80:20 prices unchanged since late-Sep’25
  • Rebar demand stays weak during peak construction phase

Mysteel Global: Feng Hsin Steel, Taiwan’s largest rebar producer, has decided to roll over its rebar list price and procurement price of local scrap for transactions over 10-14 November, a company official confirmed.

Consequently, for business discussions till this Friday, the Taiwanese mini-mill continues to offer its 13-mm dia rebar at TWD 16,200/tonne (t) ($522/t) EXW, unchanged from the prior week, while its buying price of local HMS 80:20 scrap also remains the same w-o-w at TWD 8,000/t ($258/t), he confirmed.

Local mini-mills in Taiwan are in no hurry to adjust their rebar list prices and buying prices of local scrap, as prices of global scrap delivered to Taiwan remained stable overall, Mysteel Global learnt.

As of 10 November, the price of US-sourced HMS 80:20 was reported at $300/t CFR Taiwan, unchanged since late September, while there was no quotation for Japan-origin H2 scrap over the past week, a local market source in Taiwan said.

Besides, demand for rebar from local end-users was not as strong as expected, even though the fourth quarter is regarded as a peak period for construction steel consumption in Taiwan. This further fuelled a wait-and-watch sentiment in the market.

Rebar prices in the Chinese mainland have lost ground recently due to the lacklustre demand from end-users. On 10 November, China’s national price of HRB400E 20mm dia rebar was assessed by Mysteel at RMB 3,223/ ($453/t) ($453/t), including 13% VAT, lower by RMB 22/t ($3/t) from one week earlier.

Transactions of construction steel in the physical market have hovered low, with the combined daily trading volume of rebars, wire rods, and bar-in-coil among the 237 Chinese trading houses under Mysteel’s tracking averaging 98,367 t/day over 4-10 November, down by 894 t/d from the prior week.
