Coal Imports by Taiwan have recorded a slight fall on the month during Oct’18. As per the data provided by Taiwan customs, the country has imported 6.02 MnT coal in Oct’18 against 6.03 MnT in Sep’18.
Imports in Oct’18 continued its growth on the yearly basis, as they had increased 7% Y-o-Y from 5.65 MnT in Oct’17. However, total imports in the first 10 months of CY18 (Jan’18-Oct’18) was still down 2% Y-o-Y to 58.23 MnT, as compared with 59.54 MnT recorded in the same period last year.
Major Coal Exporters:
Australia remained the largest coal supplier to Taiwan in Oct’18. The country had exported 2.9 MnT coal in Oct’18, with a 5% M-o-M fall from 3.06 MnT in Sep’18. However, on the yearly basis, coal supplies were 6% higher from 2.73 MnT in Oct’17.
Indonesian coal exports to Taiwan extended its monthly fall, as they were down 22% M-o-M to 1.38 MnT in Oct’18, also decreasing 3% Y-o-Y from 1.43 MnT in Oct’17.
Taiwan’s drop in monthly intake from Australia and Indonesia was balanced by a rise in coal sourcing from Russia, Canada and South Africa.
Russian coal exports to Taiwan increased 31% M-o-M to 0.93 MnT in Oct’18, compared with 0.71 MnT in Sep’18. Export from Canada increased twofold during the month, recorded at 0.32 MnT in Oct’18.
South African coal export to Taiwan had hit a 6-month high total during Oct’18, rising 50% M-o-M to 0.24 MnT. Besides, a shipment from Colombia was noted after a gap of 6 months, supplying 0.13 MnT coal to Taiwan during Oct’18.
