Taiwan’s monthly coal imports increased by 39% in Oct’16. While, yearly imports also recorded a growth of 38% as compared to Oct’15.
Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest coal importer, has imported 7 MnT, coal in Oct’16. The country’s imports rise by 39% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports up by 38% which was at 5.1 MnT in Oct’15. As per to Taiwan customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 95% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Oct’16, out of the total imports, the country has received 6.8 MnT Bituminous coal, 0.04 Anthracite and about 0.20 MnT other grades.

Quantity in MnT
In the first ten months of 2016 (Jan’16-Oct’16), the coal imports is down by 2% to 55.5 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Oct’16
Australia, the largest supplier to Taiwan, shipped about 3.9 MnT coal in Oct’16 with an increase of 49% compared with Sep’16. While recorded a significant growth by 73% Y-o-Y, compared to Oct’15.
Moreover, Australia caters more than 45% share of the total yearly coal imports of Taiwan. Again recorded as top supplier and shipped about 28.2 MnT coal over Jan’16-Oct’16.
Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Taiwan, exported 2 MnT coal in Oct’16 with a growth of 41% M-o-M. While yearly exports up by 22% which was 1.7 MnT in Oct’15.
Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Taiwan, shipped around 0.6 MnT coal during the month, up by 4% M-o-M. Besides, recorded a drop of 13% Y-o-Y.
