Taiwan’s monthly coal imports rose by 14% in Jul’16. In addition, imports has increased by 10% as compared to Jul’15 Y-o-Y.
Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest coal importer, has received 5.9 MnT, coal in Jul’16, recorded the third highest imported quantity of the year (Since Jan’16). The country’s imports surged by 14% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports fell by 10% which was at 5.3 MnT in Jul’15. As per to Taiwan customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives 95% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Jul’16, out of the total imports, the country has received 5.6 MnT Bituminous coal, 0.3 Pet coke, 0.1 MnT Coke and 0.01 MnT other grades.

Quantity in MnT
In the first seven months of 2016 (Jan-Jul’16), the coal imports is down by 4% to 38 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Jul’16
Australia, the largest supplier to Taiwan, shipped about 3.05 MnT coal in Jul’16 with a remarkable rise by 26% compared with Jun’16 and rose by 33% Y-o-Y.
Moreover, Australia caters more than 45% share of the total yearly coal imports of Taiwan. Again recorded as top supplier and shipped about 18.63 MnT coal over Jan-Jul’16.
Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Taiwan, exported 2.17 MnT coal in Jul’16 with a significant growth of 28% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a decline of 2% which was 2.21 MnT in Jul’15.
Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Taiwan, shipped around 0.63 MnT coal in during the month, down by 16% M-o-M and 19% Y-o-Y.
